Art for a Cause
Art is gentle yet convincing. It is silent yet can speak to many at once. It conveys what is ugly beautifully. Even if static it has the power to move hearts.
What better way than ‘Art’ to express what is most urgent! And what can be more urgent than coming together to protect our planet that has sustained us for centuries, to allow it to live and breathe so that our children can do the same.
Artists of the world unite. People of the world unite. Its payback time! STOP GLOBAL WARMING NOW!!!
Project - Young Thoughts about Tellus
Earth is already showing many signs of worldwide climate change. The 20th century\'s last two decades were the hottest in 400 years. Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing. Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting. More than a million species face extinction from disappearing habitat, changing ecosystems, and acidifying oceans. Strong hurricanes, droughts, heat waves, wildfires, and other natural disasters are becoming commonplace in many parts of the world. Global warming could lead to large-scale food and water shortages and have catastrophic effects on wildlife. Sea level could rise between 7 and 23 inches (18 to 59 centimetres) by century\'s end. Rises of just 4 inches (10 centimetres) could flood many South Seas islands and swamp large parts of Southeast Asia.
Reports, based on the work of some 2,500 scientists in more than 130 countries, have concluded that humans have caused all or most of the current planetary warming.
Humans have the means to drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions and avoid the catastrophic consequences of global warming. We can stop climate change before it's too late! (Source: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/12/1206_041206_global_warming.html)
Purpose
"Young thoughts about Tellus" brings to light the issue of 'Global Warming' , through paintings and drawings by children and young people from across the world.
We hope through participation in this project, children will become more aware and conscious of their environment and climate, and ultimately play a role in effecting positive change as responsible adults, directly or indirectly through their chosen spheres of activity.
The project also provides a platform for talented and outstanding artists from around the world, to gather and paint together in workshops centred on the theme of Global Warming.
Besides creating awareness about Climate Change, the workshops are also an attempt in promoting art, friendship and understanding between people of diverse cultures.
Our main objectives are:
• To enhance awareness and consciousness about environment and climate change, amongst children and youth across the world by inviting them to paint on the subject.
• To create awareness about Global Warming through exhibitions of paintings and drawings by children, youth and professional artists
• To reinforce the message of protecting the environment through Art Workshops for artists and children
• To promote art as a ‘medium of expression’, amongst children and youth.
• To provide a platform for children to interact with each other and with professional artists, experts and environmentalists
• To provide a forum for artists around the world, to jointly express concerns about Global Warming through art.
• To promote art, and artists who want to make a difference across the world.
• To provide a forum for cultural exchange between artists /art-enthusiasts from different countries and cultures. |
